Revolution to race at the Portuguese Formula One Grand Prix again

Revolution to race at the Portuguese Formula One Grand Prix again

Following the successful Revolution debut as a support race series for Formula One at the Heineken Portuguese Grand Prix last year, the A-One race cars have been invited back again when F1 returns to AIA Portimão on the weekend of 30th April to May 2nd.

This time the Revolution A-Ones will race as a class within O Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade by Sport TV, which means there will be three races over the course of the weekend (2x 20-minute and one 45-minute race with a compulsory pit stop, as well as 2x 20 free practice sessions and 2x 10 qualifying), allowing each car to be solo driven or shared by 2 drivers. And with a lower entry fee than in 2020.

Seventeen Revolution A-Ones, with drivers from eleven different countries enjoyed some dramatic racing back in October, in front of a large crowd with some 27,500 spectators allowed through the gates. It is expected that there will be a crowd allowed again, carefully controlled in a similar way to the paddock to ensure safety for everyone.

Places on the grid are limited, but one has already been secured. Sir Chris Hoy, the 6-time Olympic champion and former LMP2 Le Mans racer, who raced at Portimão last year and will be competing in a full season of Revolution racing in the Sports Prototype Cup, which begins at Silverstone on May 29th.

´I can’t wait to go racing again,’ said Hoy. ‘The cars are brilliant to drive and competing during a Formula One weekend is always a very special experience.’
