James Dennison’s journey into the world of professional racing is a story of passion, perseverance, and opportunity. As a motorsport novice, he has taken his first steps into competitive racing with the guidance of Rilli Racing, a world-class team led by Team Principal Steffen Rilli. With no prior experience behind the wheel of a race car, Dennison has embraced the challenge head-on, and the Revolution 427 has proven to be the perfect platform for his first season.
For years, Dennison was simply a spectator, attending IMSA races with his family. Never did he imagine that one day he would be on the grid himself, let alone as part of an elite team. Now, with the support of Rilli Racing, he has transitioned from fan to driver, experiencing firsthand the intensity and precision of the racing world.
“My family and I always attended IMSA races over the years, but I never imagined I would be behind the wheel of a car like this, let alone being part of a world-class team,” said Dennison. “This past weekend, I was told to take a moment on pre-grid, look around, and take it all in. At times, it still doesn’t feel real.”
Despite his relatively new involvement in racing, Dennison has been given significant input into car adjustments, a testament to the team’s meticulous attention to detail. He noted that the collaboration between drivers and engineers is crucial in enhancing both comfort and performance, making him feel like an integral part of the process.
James is competing in the Formula Prototype Challenge Canada (FPCC) in 2025 and has planned to do two PSSA races at Sebring and Road Atlanta as a warm up to the season in Canada.
The Art and Engineering Behind the Revolution 427
One of the standout elements of Dennison’s journey has been his experience with the Revolution Race Car, the 427. Initially starting out in a Radical, he recalls how Steffen Rilli guided him toward the Revolution due to its quality and safety features.
“To me, it’s an art piece with an attitude,” he described. “At first, I didn’t think I could ever be in a car like that due to budget and driving ability. But with Steffen’s careful approach, we’re making it work, and we’re progressing at a great pace.”
Dennison was particularly struck by the overwhelming interest in the Revolution 427 at Sebring, where crowds gathered to admire the engineering marvels under the team’s awning.
“The crew was just as busy answering questions as they were working on the cars,” he said. “Seeing that level of enthusiasm and appreciation for the brand made the experience even more special.”
From Fear to Addiction: The First Race Experience
Looking back at his first race, Dennison admitted that it was initially a nerve-wracking experience.
“Leading up to it, I was terrified,” he confessed. “But once I got on the track, that completely disappeared. From that point on, I knew this was something I would continue doing.”
His excitement has only grown as he now sets his sights on Road Atlanta in March. With an increased understanding of the sport and a new perspective, Dennison is committed to refining his skills by spending time on the team simulator and analysing data with Steffen Rilli in preparation for the next race weekend.
The Unexpected Business Benefits of Racing
What started as a personal passion has also turned into a surprising business opportunity for Dennison. Initially viewing racing as an expense, he soon realised that the connections and friendships formed in the motorsport world were proving to be invaluable.
“The exposure and networking opportunities have been incredible,” he explained. “With the rising popularity of ‘Drive to Survive’ and racetracks being built across Canada, I believe this is the new golf course. My clients and business partners are seeing real value in it.”
