This weekend, the Sports Prototype Cup brought excitement to the Donington Park GP circuit, joining the Zeo Prototype Series grid for two 30-minute sprint races. The competition featured a diverse line-up of 15 prototypes, including Revolutions, Pragas, Radicals, Normas, and a Spire, all vying for supremacy.
Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy made a triumphant return to the Revolution team for his first race of the year. Race 1 witnessed a riveting battle between Hoy and Nigel Redwood, with the two changing positions three times. Ultimately, Hoy clinched the SPC victory, showcasing his sporting talent.
Race 2 saw James Abbott taking SPC honours after a fierce contest for the overall top spots. The top three competitors were separated by a mere 1.4 seconds after 30 minutes of intense racing. Hoy secured a commendable second place in SPC and fifth overall, marking a highly successful return to the track for the Olympian.
Looking ahead, the Sports Prototype Cup will head to Zandvoort on September 13-15, featuring the popular endurance-race format from the opening rounds. Additionally, European Cup drivers are invited to participate in the joint Sports Prototype Cup/Revolution North America event at Watkins Glen, with attractive race hire packages available.
